Why I Decided to Start HYROX: A Journey to Push My Limits

For years, I’ve been dedicated to strength training and attending spin classes. I’ve always enjoyed challenging myself, but to be honest, I hadn’t been fully pushing myself as much as I could. My workouts were effective, but I felt like I was in a bit of a rut. I wasn’t getting the results I wanted, and I was beginning to feel like I needed something more to take my fitness to the next level. That’s when my brother—who’s been attending a HYROX gym for some time—suggested I look into it.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had heard of HYROX before, but I didn’t really know much about it. My brother, who’s a big fan of it, kept encouraging me to try it out, so I decided to take the plunge. I wanted to see if this could be the push I needed to step out of my comfort zone and truly challenge myself in a way I hadn’t before.

My First One-on-One HYROX Session

I scheduled a one-on-one session with a personal trainer at the HYROX gym, feeling a little nervous but excited at the same time. As soon as I arrived, I could tell this was going to be different from my usual gym routine. The atmosphere was energetic, focused, and the energy was contagious.

The trainer explained the format of the workout and reassured me that it would be scaled down for someone just starting out. Despite the scaling, I could tell it was still going to be tough. We started with the classic HYROX exercises, which included a series of high-intensity cardio and strength training movements. Even though the session was tailored to my level, it was challenging in a way I hadn’t experienced before.

I was working at my maximum capacity, but it felt different from the usual exercises I was accustomed to. Every movement required me to push myself beyond my comfort zone. By the end of the session, I was sweating, my heart was racing, and I felt a sense of accomplishment that I hadn’t felt in a long time. It was clear to me that HYROX was a completely different workout style, and I was eager to see how I could improve over time.

My First Group HYROX Session

This morning, I attended my first group HYROX session. I was excited but also a little nervous, knowing it would be a step up from the one-on-one session I had before. We started with a warm-up that involved two laps of running, which helped get my heart rate up and my body ready for what was coming next.

Once the warm-up was over, we were split into teams, and that’s when the real challenge began. I started with the prowler, pushing 50kg across four tracks. It felt tough, but manageable. Afterward, we moved on to the sandbag lunges—two tracks with the sandbag—and let me tell you, that was no walk in the park. My legs were burning, but I pushed through. I could feel my body working in ways it hadn’t before.

The intensity didn’t let up. We had to do a total of six tracks with the prowler, followed by two more rounds of sandbag lunges, then eight tracks with the prowler. By this point, my heart was really pumping, and I could feel the sweat pouring down. But there was no backing out now. I knew this workout was going to push me to my limits, and I was determined to keep going.

The final challenge was when we swapped stations, and I had to get on the ski erg. We were tasked with 500 meters on the ski erg followed by 30 wall balls. Then, it was 750 meters of ski erg, another 30 wall balls, and finally, 1000 meters on the ski erg with 30 more wall balls. At this point, I was seriously out of breath, my muscles were screaming, and my heart rate was through the roof. I had to dig deep, but I felt an adrenaline rush that kept me going until the very end.

A Game-Changer for My Fitness Journey

What I experienced today was a workout like no other. It was tough, yes, but it was also incredibly rewarding. As someone who has always enjoyed strength training and spin classes, I can honestly say I’ve never pushed myself in this way before. My heart was racing, my body was challenged in ways it hadn’t been before, and I could feel my fitness level improving with every session.

HYROX is more than just a workout; it’s a complete fitness challenge that targets both strength and endurance. It's designed to push you to your physical and mental limits, and that’s exactly what it did for me. I realized that this type of training is exactly what I need to break through my fitness plateaus and take my training to the next level.

I’ve made the decision to change up my gym routine. Strength training and spin will always be a part of my fitness journey, but I’m now committed to adding more cardio and high-intensity training into the mix. My ultimate goal is to become super fit—both mentally and physically—and I believe that HYROX is the perfect way to get there.

Final Thoughts

I’m excited to continue my HYROX journey and see just how far I can push myself. It’s a change I needed in my routine, and I’m already feeling the difference in my fitness level.
